Job summary

Join The University of Salford in Salford for a 36-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership as an AI/ML Associate. You will work on a three-way project with R&B Switchgear Services Ltd and the University, applying advanced AI to engineering data and transformation initiatives.

You will develop multimodal AI systems, evaluate models, and ensure safe, transparent outputs while collaborating with engineering, IT and leadership teams on adoption and impact.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2.1 BEng/BSc in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, ML or related subject.
• Experience applying machine learning to real-world problems.
• Experience with computer vision, NLP and large language models.
• Experience developing, testing and deploying ML models.
• Understanding of data engineering, software development and AI deployment.
• Experience with Safe AI, cybersecurity or regulated environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and embed AI technologies to analyse engineering information across visual and text sources.
• Combine computer vision, NLP and LLMs to streamline engineering tasks.
• Develop safe AI systems for safety-critical environments and ensure trust in outputs.
• Manage an innovation project and collaborate with engineering, IT and leadership teams.
• Communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences and support AI adoption.
