Job summary

The Telegraph’s Features team seeks a writer to produce features, interviews and colour reporting across the desk.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, spotting exclusives and opportunities for agenda-setting content that push Telegraph ahead of its competitors. Build sources and partner with visuals to tell compelling stories.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of reporting and writing short and long stories, features and interviews.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of media law and its application to journalism.
  • Experience in building exclusive angles and sourcing high-impact content.
  • Comfort with travel and on-the-ground reporting.

Responsibilities

About The Role

The Telegraph’s Features team provides original, entertaining and inspiring content for our readers.


In this role, you will work across the features desk to write features, interviews and provide colour reporting.


Working in a fast-paced, news-driven environment you’ll be confident in managing both tight daily deadlines and longer lead pieces.


You will be able to spot exclusives and opportunities for agenda setting content that will create national talking points and push the Telegraph ahead of its competitors.


Curiosity in the news agenda, alongside a network of key contacts, sources and experts, will be essential to ensure that you have a constant supply of ideas.

Key Responsibilities


  • Providing all types of high-quality content - from quick turnaround reported features and ghost-written articles to on the ground news colour pieces, richly-researched long reads, investigations and big interviews

  • Highly engaged with the news agenda and confident in pitching features angles on breaking news stories and wider trends, as well as zeitgeisty ideas that break new ground

  • Able to deliver clean copy to tight deadlines

  • Constantly seeking out original ideas for features content

  • Building a strong network of contacts to secure exclusives, ensuring that the Telegraph are ahead of the competition

  • Liaising with teams such as visual journalism and video to explore innovative ways to tell stories


Key Skills


  • A proven track record of reporting and writing short and long stories, news features, interviews,

  • dispatches, vox pops to tight deadlines

  • Good investigative and persuasion skills

  • Flexibility and availability to travel at short notice

  • Full knowledge of media law is required

  • Understand what drives digital engagement in a subscription-based organisation

  • A good understanding of the Telegraph's tone and audience
