Job summary

The Ministry of Justice runs a Probation Service returner scheme for former qualified senior probation officers wishing to rejoin the service. Entry is a fast-track return with no lengthy application or retraining; contracts are temporary for three, six or nine months, with the option to extend or convert to permanent.

Candidates who left the Civil Service within the last five years and completed probation are eligible, with enhanced security vetting.

Qualifications

• Probation Officer qualification, or qualified Probation Officer status.
• PQF Honours Degree/Graduate Diploma and Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice, or Diploma in Probation Studies, or Diploma in Social Work or CQSW (Probation option).

Responsibilities

• Keep the public safe and rehabilitate people on probation.
