Overview

This traineeship aims to develop your skills and provide valuable work experience to help you start a career in the environmental/conservation farm advice sector.

Role Description

You'll work within the Authority’s Land & Nature Farm Adviser Team and the Morridge Hill Country Landscape Recovery Project Team. The role focuses on providing farm advice, supporting farmers and landowners in conservation land management through environmental schemes, including private finance, to meet the objectives of the National Park Management Plan.

About You

This entry-level position is suitable for individuals with little or no prior experience in the sector. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A keen interest in upland farming, the countryside, and current environmental issues
  • Enthusiasm for the national park and conservation land management
  • Some experience with upland farms or farmers
  • Basic understanding of environmental schemes relevant to agriculture and national parks
  • Knowledge of government departments, agencies, and organizations related to agriculture
  • Good communication (verbal and written), IT, and organizational skills
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in a related subject
  • A valid UK driving license

Job Development

During the traineeship, you will develop and eventually deliver skills in:

  • Communication and negotiation
  • Basic farmland survey assessment (habitats, heritage, landscape features)
  • Understanding upland farming issues and environmental interests
  • Identifying conservation, access, and recreation opportunities
  • Environmental schemes and application processes
  • Environmental legislation and planning requirements
  • Green finance opportunities, including carbon credits and renewables

Responsibilities

Eventually, you'll support and advise farmers and land managers on conservation, handle environmental scheme applications, and coordinate responses to consultations.
