We are looking for a passionate and experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) to join our thriving state school in Reading. If you are a skilled educator with a strong background in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts, we invite you to bring your expertise to our dedicated Design and Technology Department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to inspire and lead students to develop their practical skills and knowledge in food technology.

About the Role

As an Experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons in food technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and potentially Key Stage 5. You will inspire students to explore the impact of food on health, culture, and sustainability while developing their culinary skills in a practical and creative learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Delivering High-Quality Lessons: Plan and teach engaging, challenging, and differentiated lessons in food technology. Foster an environment where students can explore their creativity and develop practical cooking skills.
  2. Advanced Skills Development: Guide students through complex food topics such as advanced cooking techniques, nutrition, food science, and sustainability.
  3. Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student progress and provide detailed feedback to support student growth.
  4. Curriculum Leadership: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement the curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant and engaging.
  5. Student Engagement: Encourage critical thinking about food-related issues, inspiring responsible consumer behavior.
  6. Leadership and Mentoring: Mentor less experienced staff or early career teachers (ECTs), sharing knowledge and best practices.
  7. Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead extra-curricular food technology initiatives, giving students opportunities to engage with food outside the classroom.
About You

We are looking for an experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) who is passionate about food education. The ideal candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, creativity, and the ability to engage students of all abilities.

You will have:
  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, or a related subject.
  2. Extensive Experience teaching Food Technology at Key Stage 3 and 4, with the ability to teach Key Stage 5 an advantage.
  3. A strong passion for food technology and the desire to develop students' practical cooking skills and understanding of nutrition and sustainability.
  4. Proven ability to differentiate lessons for diverse learning styles.
  5. Experience with assessment and data analysis to inform teaching.
  6. Leadership skills, with potential to lead initiatives or mentor others.
  7. A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
