Join Our Family Time Team at Sheffield Children’s Social Care Services

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our established “Family Time Team” across Sheffield. We have multiple bases throughout the city.

Family Contact / Family Time provides children and young people in care and those who are vulnerable with opportunities for physical and emotional contact with their family, friends, and network, as ordered through the family court system.

Children and young people in care should be encouraged and supported to maintain contact with their parents, those with parental responsibility, siblings, and other significant family members, where it is safe and as outlined in their care plan. The local authority has a duty under the Children Act 1989 to promote contact, and courts are required to consider contact issues before making orders such as a Care Order.

We are seeking four part-time, permanent Family Time Contact Workers, each working 18.5 hours per week. The ideal candidates will be flexible, committed, and responsible for facilitating, observing, and supporting vulnerable children, young people, and families during contact sessions. Relevant work or voluntary experience in a multi-agency setting involving professionals, vulnerable children, and families is essential.

You should have an understanding of child development, safeguarding, and child protection, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with children from birth to 18 years, their families, foster carers, and social care professionals. IT competence and report-writing skills on social care systems are required, and training will be provided. The role involves working afternoons, some evenings, and weekends on a rota. Enhanced pay rates are available for weekend work.
