Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and families? West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and motivated Family Support Worker to join our Children and Family Services team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative environment, providing essential support to families in need.

The Role

Responsibilities

As a Family Support Worker, you will report to the Assistant Team Manager and be responsible for delivering high-quality family support services. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working directly with children and families to assess their needs and provide appropriate support
  • Supervise and support family time between children and young people in care and their families.
  • Implementing intervention strategies to promote positive outcomes for children
  • Building trusting relationships with families, offering guidance and advice
  • Collaborating with other professionals and agencies to ensure coordinated support
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation in line with organisational requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience working in a family support role, ideally within a local authority setting
  • Sound knowledge of child development and the factors affecting family functioning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and families
  • Strong assessment and intervention skills, with the ability to identify and address individual needs
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and safeguarding procedures

Please note this role is fixed term for one year but may be extended to two years subject to funding
