Family Support Worker – Letterbox

Location: Stockport

Salary: Scale 5

Contract: Full-time, Contract


Are you passionate about supporting families and making a difference in the lives of children and young people? Stockport Council is looking for a Family Support Worker – Letterbox to join our Adoption Counts team!


About the Role

As a Family Support Worker – Letterbox, you will play a vital role in supporting birth families and adopters with indirect contact through the Letterbox Exchange, ensuring that adopted children maintain a strong sense of identity. You will also support adoptive families in implementing and reviewing adoption support plans.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Facilitating and reviewing Letterbox contact between birth families and adopters.
  2. Providing emotional and practical support to adoptive families and birth families.
  3. Helping adopted children with their identity, belonging, and security.
  4. Developing and co-facilitating group sessions for adoptive families.
  5. Working with partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  6. Participating in training, service development, and regional events.

What We’re Looking For
  1. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in childcare.
  2. Experience working with children who have experienced trauma or neglect.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to work across agencies and deliver family support services.
  5. Knowledge of adoption, attachment, and early trauma.
  6. A car user (or alternative arrangements will be considered for disabled applicants).
