Overview

Job Title: Family Support Worker

Location: Ty Seren, Bridgend, South Wales

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week) and Part-Time roles available (23 hours and 34.5 hours per week)

Salary: £13.00 - £13.25 per hour

Shifts: A combination of dayshifts, nightshifts and weekends

Days: 7am–7.30pm; Nights: 7pm–7.30am

An ideal candidate will be a support worker with the required qualification in Health & Social Care and at least one year’s experience of working with vulnerable adults and/or children in the UK.

Placement context: Ty Seren is a Residential Family Centre based in Bridgend, South Wales, supporting up to 10 families at any one time where there are concerns about a parent’s ability to care for their child. Placements are typically for 14 weeks and include a programme of teaching and assessment.

Job Description

Our Family Support Worker roles involve supporting the parents who reside in our Service to improve their self-esteem, confidence, skills and behaviours while they undergo their parenting assessment. An essential part of the role is to ensure the baby is safeguarded at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Promote the Service’s mission, objectives, vision and values internally and externally; comply with policies, procedures, guidance, code of professional practice, contractual requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Share relevant information as needed, listen to, follow directions and ensure all allocated duties are completed as requested. When not possible, hand over outstanding tasks to the Shift Coordinator with a clear rationale.
  • Support each family within the Service, as directed by the Shift Coordinator, 2nd Senior and/or MDT, in line with assessed needs.
  • Support parents to meet their children’s developing needs, including parenting and independent living skills.
  • Accompany families in the Service and in the community when required.
  • Build positive working relationships with family members by adopting a calm, caring yet assertive approach.
  • Ensure the voices and choices of families are represented; raise any concerns or complaints with Management.
  • Keep accurate, complete and timely records of family observations and interactions.
  • Assess families during targeted formal assessment sessions, supported by the MDT.
  • Report safeguarding concerns in line with national, local and service-specific procedures for children and adults at risk.
  • Attend and provide evidence at Family Court when required; full support will be provided.
  • Undertake any other tasks as delegated by the Shift Coordinator or 2nd Senior.
Essential Person Specification and Core Requirements
  • Assist with cleaning and infection control duties within the Service.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including days, nights and weekends.
  • Willing or currently working towards QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or willing to work towards City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) & (Adults).
  • Willing to register with Social Care Wales and achieve AWIF during probationary period.
  • Demonstrable understanding of confidentiality and disclosure of personal information.
  • Demonstrable high standard of numeric and literacy skills, ensuring accurate recording of family observations.
Desirable Core Requirements
  • Effective and accurate administration skills and IT proficiency, with experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate through Welsh.
  • Ability to drive.
