Job summary

Story Wood School in Birmingham is seeking an exceptional Family Support Worker to promote safety, wellbeing and inclusion for all pupils. You will lead safeguarding and attendance efforts, build strong relationships with families, and support pupils with complex needs, including those with SEND.

You will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral lead/DSL) and SENCO to ensure every child is safe, supported and ready to learn, while coordinating with external agencies to secure the best

Qualifications

• Experience working with vulnerable children and families in pastoral or safeguarding roles.
• Strong safeguarding, attendance and behaviour management knowledge.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage with external agencies and multi‑agency plans.
• Commitment to inclusion and raising life chances.

Responsibilities

• Lead safeguarding and pupil wellbeing as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
• Improve attendance and engage with families, including home visits.
• Support behaviour management and develop reintegration plans.
• Coordinate SEND support with the SENCO and external professionals.
• Collaborate with senior leaders on safeguarding, inclusion and staff training.
