Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is seeking a Family Practitioner to join the Family Practitioner Service in Tamworth. The role involves visiting families and delivering early interventions, with office and remote working.

Training will be provided to adopt a restorative practice approach to keep families together where possible. The ideal candidate will have NVQ Level 3 related to children and families (or equivalent experience) and be flexible with working hours, with a valid UK driving licence.

We are looking for a Family Practitioner to join the Family Practitioner Service in Tamworth.

We are a dedicated team of professionals who work with children and their families across the Tamworth district providing support and early interventions which have a positive impact on the lives of children and families and empower parents and carers to be confident in their role.

We deliver a restorative practice model that focuses on keeping families together through a community-based approach. If you’ve not worked in this way before, don’t worry – we’ll give you full training to bring you up to speed.

Working with us means collaborating across our different teams, and sharing best practice, knowledge, and experience to continually improve the way we do things. Support is important, as we work in a big county with some diverse challenges – but together we can meet all kinds of needs and demands.

This role will be office and remote working visiting families and completing visits to external provisions. Working 8:30 till 5 Monday to Thursday and 8:30 till 4:30 Friday.

This role is fixed-term until August 2027.

Our Family Practitioners are key workers for the children and families we support. You’ll be:

  • Leading on early help assessments and plans
  • Working together with social workers to support children in need
  • Contributing to parenting assessments
  • Supporting mediation, crisis prevention, conflict resolution and life story work
  • Supporting on the completion of accurate documentation, reports and records relating to work you do with children, young people and their families

And through all this great work you do, you’ll be supporting children and families, with a restorative practice approach, helping them stay together where possible.

The Ideal Candidate

Theminimum essential criteria that will be assessed for the purposes ofshortlisting will be,

  • A minimum of NVQ Level 3 related to working with children and families OR relevant experience
  • Experienceof supporting children and their families within their homes, delivering direct work and being creative in the way that you work to engage children,their families and carers
  • Be flexible with working hours as there may be occasions where evening and weekend work may be needed
  • Have a current UK driving licence and vehicle

But above all, you’ll bring the desire to work with children and families to give them the right support, at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it’s safe to do so.
