Responsibilities
- Assist solicitors in all aspects of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, and property division
- Conduct initial client interviews and gather relevant information for case assessment
- Prepare and file legal documents, including petitions, motions, and responses
- Manage case files and ensure all documentation is organised and up-to-date
- Draft correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Conduct legal research and analyse case law relevant to ongoing matters
- Assist in the preparation of financial disclosures and asset division proposals
- Coordinate with experts, such as child custody evaluators and forensic accountants
- Schedule and attend client meetings, depositions, and court hearings
- Maintain and update case calendars and deadlines
- Prepare exhibits and trial binders for court appearances
- Assist attorneys during mediation sessions and settlement negotiations
- Communicate with clients regularly to provide updates and gather information
- Perform conflict checks and maintain client confidentiality
- Collaborate with other paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of experience as a paralegal in family law
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field
- Strong knowledge of family law procedures, local court rules, and filing requirements
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
