The Family Law team is recognised as one of the top national and international practices in London, advising on the full spectrum of family-related matters. These include divorce, separation, civil partnerships, cohabitation, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, as well as complex financial and child-related disputes. Many cases involve an international element, and the team offers expert advice on jurisdictional matters.

  • Opening, closing, and maintaining client files.
  • Preparing billing guides and draft bills (with input from fee earners).
  • Creating and maintaining client records in the SOS system.
  • Handling client and third-party queries to support fee earners.
  • Diary management including scheduling meetings, court appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Producing court bundles.
  • Assisting with departmental file reviews and liaising with Risk & Compliance to meet internal deadlines.
  • Supporting the team with overflow secretarial tasks.
  • Performing other relevant duties as required.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise tasks independently.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Fast, accurate typing (digital and copy), with strong grammar and spelling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience comparing lengthy legal documents.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a legal secretary within Family Law.
  • Good knowledge of Family Law procedures and the Family Court system.
  • Familiarity with the Family Court portal.
  • Formal secretarial training (e.g., ILEX) is desirable but not essential.

Personal Attributes:

  • Highly organised and proactive, especially when supporting fee earners working remotely or in court.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and use initiative.
  • Professional, adaptable, and team-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with individuals at all levels.

Working Hours:

  • Tuesday to Thursday, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.
  • 15 days annual leave (pro-rated) plus UK Bank Holidays
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Season Ticket Loan
