Job description

Job Opportunity: Family Support Practitioner (Long Term Temporary)

Please be aware this is a Long Term Temporary post to start ASAP.

You will assist the Family Help Practice Manager in the day-to-day management of one or two Neighbourhood Teams for children and families. Working within a multi-agency framework, you will support families with complex needs, acting as their champion and advocate to improve aspirations and outcomes by building on strengths to reduce dependency on public services.

In line with the key principles of ‘Progress With Unity’, you will embody the values and behaviours, working with colleagues across the Council and its wider partners to achieve the best outcomes for families. You will help deliver and lead good quality, child-centred practice across the service, ensuring that practice is underpinned by the Progress with Unity principles and that the practice model is embedded in all work with children and families. Demonstrating effective leadership and management to support staff is essential.

The Council is committed to complying with the European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and meeting the requirements of the Information Commissioner’s Office. It is your responsibility to ensure that your work complies with these regulations.

As part of your role, you will:

  1. Assist the Family Help Practice Manager in ensuring the delivery of a high-performing, quality, and effective service to children and families.
  2. Support the management of the team’s workload, take responsibility for complex work, and deputise for the Family Help Practice Manager.
  3. Support the team in developing action plans alongside families, coaching, challenging, and supporting them to build resilience within families and communities.
  4. Adopt an asset-based approach, building positive relationships with children and families, and supporting staff to develop and strengthen family networks.
  5. Support the implementation of legislation and government guidance related to statutory and local performance indicators.
