Job summary

We have a new post as a Falls Specialist Technician within the Falls Prevention Brighton and Hove team. We are offering a part time role. The main duties will include:

a) To assist the clinical team to treat a caseload of older people who have fallen or may be at risk of falls and osteoporosis.b) The Falls Specialist Technician will provide a mixture of general and specific care to a group of patients and will be proficient and competent to work at a higher competency level than a Falls Specialist Assistant. They will work alongside a registered nurse and allied health professionals.c) The post holder will be expected to have Foundation degree in Health and Social care. They will also become proficient and competent in their area of practice by undertaking Postural Stability Instructor/Otago qualifications.

d) Triage referrals to the Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention Service usingdepartmental protocols with support from a senior clinician.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

a) The Falls Specialist Technician will function at a competency level in line with a Band 4 competency framework.b) Evidence of training and successful completion of competencies will berequired before the post holder can undertake the role fully.c) The post holder will provide general and specific care as specified with "main tasks" section below.d) The post holder will be supported and supervised by a registerednurse/therapist and will participate in MDT working.e) To work alone, with access to a supervisor, in the community within theguidelines of the lone worker policy maintaining high regard of own and others personal safety.f) To undertake Enhanced Assessor training, in order to assess and provide basic items of equipment and to teach and demonstrate the use of such equipment or other techniques to optimise the client's functional ability, independence and safety.g) To provide administrative support to the team i.e. photocopying, register of referrals, booking of appointments and transport if required, monitoring of attendances and DNA's, transfer of referrals and related patient liaison, filing and faxing, as requested.
