We are seeking a proactive individual to join our Ophthalmology team as a Failsafe Officer. This vital role supports patient safety by ensuring robust tracking and follow-up systems are in place for key ophthalmic pathways, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye screening.

The Failsafe Officer acts as a final safeguard to ensure that no patients are missed or lost to follow-up due to administrative oversight or clinical process delays. Working closely with clinical teams, administrative staff, and IT systems, the post-holder will monitor and audit high-risk patient pathways, investigate potential gaps, and ensure timely intervention or escalation where required.

This role is essential in supporting compliance with national safety guidelines and maintaining high standards of care. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organised, and able to work independently in a busy clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain failsafe systems for high-risk ophthalmology pathways
  • Identify and investigate gaps in patient follow-up or treatment timelines
  • Liaise with clinical staff to ensure urgent cases are prioritised appropriately
  • Ensure compliance with NHS clinical governance and patient safety standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support data audits

Working Pattern: hours over 4 days. Monday - Friday.

If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 4/5 pay bandings (Pay scales for 4/ | NHS Employers)
