Job description

Faculty Education Officer, Arts and Humanities

UCL is a radically different university. Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, we were the first university in England to welcome students of any religion and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. Today UCL has over 40,000 students and 12,500 staff and is one of the world’s top 10 universities. We have a culture of promoting diversity and sustainability and 30 Nobel laureates among our current and previous alumni.

Ranked fifth in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for the last two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), the Faculty of Arts & Humanities (A&H) at UCL is recognised globally for both its teaching and research excellence.

About the role

The Faculty Education Officer supports the governance and development of education at Faculty level. Working in the Faculty Education and Student Experience (ESE) Team, the Faculty Education Officer will play a key role in delivering our vision of an excellent student experience across the Faculty, for both taught and research students.

On a day-to-day basis, the post-holder will work closely with a variety of Educational leads from across the Faculty – both academic and professional service staff – to ensure that Departments within the Faculty are aware of their responsibilities, that appropriate data are gathered and that the responsibilities of each of the Faculty’s Education Committees are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. Reporting to the Education and Student Experience Manager, the post-holder will also work closely with the Director of Education and Student Experience (DESE) and Head of Education and Student Experience (HESE), and will be responsible for co-ordinating the annual education business and quality assurance cycles as required by UCL. They will work to identify changes to improve student experience.

NOTE: UCL is currently reorganising its Education Administration and Student Experience (EASE) function. This may result in changes to some of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position and/or its reporting line(s).

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

The successful candidate will have experience of providing administrative support in a Higher Education (HE) setting. An understanding of HE Governance, Quality Assurance and administrative processes, including student record systems, and experience of formal committee servicing, are essential. Applicants will be able to demonstrate good organisation skills, with an ability to manage their own variable workload, and be able to collaborate effectively and sensitively with colleagues at different levels within and outside the university. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, combined with excellent IT skills and a good working knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications, are also key requirements of the role.

What we offer

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:

  • 41 Days of holiday (27 days annual leave 8 bank holidays, and 6 closure days)
  • Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme
  • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Relocation scheme for certain posts
  • On-site gym
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service

We, therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL’s workforce.
