A leading poultry processing company in Thorne is seeking a Department Manager to oversee the Cutting Packing Department. The ideal candidate will have team leadership experience, strong communication skills, and knowledge of health and safety regulations. Responsibilities include managing resources, ensuring compliance, and fostering team development. This is a full-time role involving late and overnight shifts.
JOB CONTENT
ROLE OBJECTIVE
To effectively and efficiently, manage the resources within the Cutting Packing Department to ensure the best use of people, plant and materials and meet output, product quality and customer service targets. Ensure that all Chesterfield poultry customer and legal requirements are followed at all times e.g. Animal Welfare, food safety, product quality, policies and procedures. Be a strong inspirational Leader of people who can galvanise a team during challenging times.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
•Review, develop and manage your team in order to ensure that they Manage and maintain acceptable levels/standards of performance, attendance and conduct.
•To ensure that the site is legally & contractually compliant in all areas and to actively promote hygiene & health & safety, immediately halting any un-safe working practice & taking appropriate action to remedy.
•Achieve planned production throughout.
•Monitor the ongoing progress of the operation, liaising with other departments as necessary to alleviate problem areas & resolve problems.
•Ensure that all employees within your department are aware of their roles/accountabilities, that training is provided to meet these and that Chesterfield Poultry employment & communication policies are complied with.
•Communicate, liaise and escalate issues with the Factory Manager, colleagues and other departments where necessary.
•Ensure that the site achieves and maintains the targeted level of accreditation through customer/legal auditing processes.
•To co-ordinate the activities of the team under your control
•To make recommendations to the Factory Manager re measures to improve production performance and quality
•To interact with MHS staff to ensure legal responsibilities are met.
•Ensure you and your managers deal with all people related matters in a timely and appropriate manor as per HR Policies and guideline.
•Ensure all Managers within your Department have specific set objectives to work to applicable to their role.
•Ensure regular performance discussions take place with your managers to guide them on areas of improvement and areas of strength.
•Anything else required to complete your role successfully.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and other requirements
-A Level - College degree or Bachelor's
-IOSH Managing Safety
-Food Safety Level 3
Technical Skills
-Computer skills (excel, word, power point, outlook)
Other Essential Skills
-Great communicator
-Solid level of numeracy - able to calculate and report on performance and shift KPI’s.
-Excellent track record of managing teams; building capability, addressing any issues effectively and in compliance with legislative and company policies and procedures.
-Ability to clearly communicate and build a strong and effective team.
-Self-motivated and highly resilient.
-Must be a confident decision maker and have the ability to challenge the status quo
-Ensures total legal compliance in all areas of H&S, Technical and people as well as living the organisations values and competencies.
Experience
-Experience in the food industry is preferred.
-Proven experience in team leadership or management is desirable.
