This position will help manage the DEC recreation facilities, infrastructure, boat launch sites, and daily operations. It involves managing campgrounds as a hands-on/working on-site supervisor, performing semi-skilled maintenance and repairs on campground buildings, boat launches, and other DEC infrastructure. Duties include but are not limited to: constructing picnic tables, outhouses, and fire pits; hazardous tree removal; campsite restorations; facility remodels & rehabilitations; roofing; painting; snow removal; road repair; general building maintenance; daily cleaning and sanitizing of comfort stations & shower buildings; refuse pickup & removal; groundskeeping; mowing; fire pit cleaning; and assisting the Operations maintenance staff with various projects. The role also involves managing campground staff, handling daily/weekly booth transactions and reports, customer service & registration, and staff scheduling. Equipment operation includes skid steer, loader, chipper, stump grinder, mini dump truck, and transport equipment. May require operating a motorboat to access remote state facilities, with certification needed upon appointment.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operations or assisting in a journey-level trade. Valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the vehicle operated is required when operating motor vehicles.
