Overview

About the Role

One of my local government clients is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Facilities Technical Officer to manage and oversee cyclical services and reactive maintenance across a diverse housing portfolio. This includes communal blocks, temporary accommodation, leasehold properties, supported housing, and other council-owned tenures. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the condition and legal compliance of the council's housing assets, ensuring all services meet statutory obligations, follow industry standards, and reflect best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the delivery of cyclical servicing and maintenance programmes across Council-managed properties.
  • Manage reactive maintenance issues efficiently, ensuring a prompt and effective response.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safety standards for all building services and housing stock.
  • Monitor and inspect housing assets across the Big 6 compliance areas:
  • Gas Safety
  • Electrical Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Water Hygiene (Legionella)
  • Asbestos Management
  • Lift Safety
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies to ensure works are carried out to specification, within budget, and on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records, asset registers, and compliance documentation in line with council policies.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to verify works are completed to a high standard.
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in facilities management or property compliance, ideally within a local authority or social housing setting.
  • Strong technical understanding of statutory compliance across housing assets.
  • Knowledge and/or qualifications in one or more of the Big 6 compliance areas.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems is desirable.
