Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in a Facility Project Manager role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Construction and/or Mechanical/electrical background required.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead capital projects, coordinating internal and external resources as required.
  • Plan, design and oversee the configuration of buildings, structures and machines.
  • Support the creation of business case and other documents as required by the Capex approval process.

Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 370+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.

We’re looking for aFacilities Project Manager to join us at our Luton manufacturing facility - where innovation meets legacy. Since 1993, our Luton facility has been at the forefront of aerospace technology, proudly leading the way in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. With a rich heritage and a reputation for excellence, we’re now entering an exciting new chapter of transformation.

Our role and responsibilities

We’re investing in the future - reimagining our workspace, upgrading equipment, and optimising our operations to meet growing demand and drive innovation. As Facilities Project Manager you’ll play a pivotal role in this journey. You’ll be responsible for planning and delivering high-performing workspaces, facilities, and equipment that boost capacity, enhance reliability, and keep operations running smoothly - all while ensuring cost efficiency and mitigating the impact on production schedules.

This position is a 2 year Fixed-term contract.

Responsibilities
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mindset and ensuring compliance to the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Lead capital projects, coordinating internal and external resources as required
  • Work In collaboration with business partners to capture their workspace, facilities (building) and equipment requirements.
  • Plan, design and oversee the configuration of buildings, structures and machines
  • Gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility.
  • Coordinates with architect, engineering firms and equipment suppliers in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings.
  • In collaboration with procurement, prepares and submits request for quotation to applicable suppliers
  • Reviews bid responses to ensure supplier proposal meets GKN requirements, and delivers best value to GKN.
  • Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labour, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
  • Contracts for construction, facilities, equipment and machine acquisitions in collaboration with Procurement
  • Inspect or direct the inspection of construction installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specification, and schedules.
  • Support the creation of business case and other documents as required by the Capex approval process

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in a Facility Project Manager role, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Construction and/or Mechanical/electrical background required
  • Experience in planning and estimating construction projects and equipment acquisition
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; influencing a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft office suite
  • Fluent in Building standards
  • Able to read technical construction drawings
  • Proven structured Problem Solving experience

Desirable:

  • Professional qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • Experience working with manufacturing organisations conducting ongoing production
  • Creation of CAD layouts of manufacturing facilities
  • Building/equipment construction experience in the Aerospace industry
  • A passion for the Aerospace industry
