Job summary

Melksham Gardens is seeking a Facilities Officer to maintain and improve our brand-new 80-bed care home in Melksham. You will handle heating, lighting, the building fabric, boiler and water system checks, and ensure essential health and safety compliance, helping create a safe, welcoming environment for residents and colleagues.

You’ll work on-site, with a supportive team and opportunities to grow as the home opens.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar maintenance role.
• Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Facilities Services (not essential).

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of heating and lighting and the fabric of the building.
• Regular checks on boiler and water systems and health & safety checks.
• Create a safe, well-maintained environment for residents and staff.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our property estate is a mixture of sizes, ages and services. As we modernise our portfolio of homes; we are refurbishing some with others being brand new, contemporary care homes. With this investment into our property, we need more people with the right mix of skills and passion to ensure that our homes are kept well maintained and safe.

As the Handy Person you’ll take pride in the Home that you maintain, including the surrounding gardens. You’ll soon get to know our residents and their families and will let them get involved in helping you to maintain their home. You’ll be responsible for key tasks such as the maintenance of heating and lighting, the overall fabric of the building, regular checks on the boiler and water systems and completing all relevant health and safety checks.

In joining us, you’ll also become part of our extended family. You’ll work alongside other team members who are passionate about providing a safe environment, as well as warmth and kindness to all those who live and work in our homes.

ABOUT MELKSHAM GARDENS

Melksham Gardens is a brand-new, purpose-built 80-bed care home on Longleaze Lane, due to open in . The home will provide residential, dementia and nursing care, alongside respite and day care services.

Designed around residents’ comfort, wellbeing and independence, the home will offer luxury en-suite bedrooms, including suites for couples, alongside private dining spaces, a cinema, gym, activities room, hair salon, wellness spa and dedicated family suite.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at the beginning of the home’s journey. Depending on the progress of the home, you may join us during the preparation and mobilisation period or as we welcome our first residents. Your exact start date may therefore be subject to change and could be later than initially anticipated.

The early stages will be different to working in an established care home as the team comes together and the home prepares to welcome its first residents. You’ll play an important part in helping establish the high standards and welcoming environment that Melksham Gardens will be known for.

ABOUT YOU

You’ll have experience in a similar maintenance role with strong practical skills. You may also have a Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Facilities Services (or equivalent) but this is not essential. You’ll be comfortable in an elderly care setting, with the ability to relate to our residents in a caring and sensitive manner.

Confident working on your own initiative, and with a positive attitude and good communication skills, you’ll prioritise your work schedules to meet the needs of the Home and its residents and be committed to providing a well-maintained environment for everyone who lives and works in the home.
