The Opportunity:

Facilities Manager

Avantor is looking for a single site Facilities Manager to join our team at the Hichrom facility in Theale, Reading. This role involves working in a scientific production environment, ensuring the site meets statutory inspection requirements, and managing essential site services.

Responsibilities:

Facilities and Operations:

  • Ensure compliance with statutory inspection requirements.
  • Collaborate with the EHS team to maintain safety-critical equipment.
  • Manage essential site services including security, maintenance, utilities, cleaning, waste disposal, and recycling.
  • Monitor and trend energy and environmental data, investigate variances, and promote positive trends.
  • Upload sustainability data to corporate reporting systems monthly.
  • Maintain records for hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
  • Prepare construction phase plans and health and safety files as required.
  • Respond to emergencies or urgent issues and provide timely reports.
  • Review site layout for safe operating practices and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement an equipment management system and ensure routine preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare annual forecasts for site spend and document facility-related changes via the Change Management process.

Contractor and Visitor Management:

  • Conduct inductions for all site visitors.
  • Manage the site permit to work systems.
  • Handle contract management, including raising purchase orders and handling invoice queries.
  • Prepare scope documents for tenders/quotes and manage contractor documentation.
  • Monitor contractor performance and apply intervention techniques as necessary.

Project Management:

  • Utilize MS Project for planning, finance, and milestone management.
  • Prepare financial models for capex requests.
  • Chair project meetings and summarize report-outs.
  • Collaborate with Site Directors and Managers on investment plans and site improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
  • Understanding of CDM.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Passion for driving change and continual improvements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

  • Experience with lean principles/initiatives and/or six sigma qualification.
  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Project, Office 365, and SAP (training provided).
  • Awareness of COSHH, PUWER, TABRA, and Dynamic Risk Assessments.
  • Good understanding of chemical safety, storage, and segregation.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, numerical, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage incidents and collaborate with EHS teams.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to quality standards and procedures.
  • Project management experience desirable.
