The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibility for escalations where required.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Facilities Manager plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner. This role would suit an experienced Facilities Manager, Site Manager or operational leader who enjoys developing teams, building strong working relationships, and creating a positive, well-managed site culture.

What you will do:

  • Lead, support and develop the on-site facilities team, helping to maintain a positive and collaborative team culture.

  • Achieve and maintain statutory and mandatory compliance across the site.

  • Work closely with the Compliance Team Leader to ensure audits, processes and reporting are managed effectively.

  • Oversee planned and reactive maintenance activity, ensuring work is completed safely, compliantly and within agreed timescales.

  • Use data, reporting tools and systems such as Power BI to monitor performance, identify trends and support operational decision-making.

  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, risk management and environmental compliance.

  • Support key compliance areas including water management and site assurance.

  • Build effective relationships with internal teams, regional operations, support functions, HMPPS stakeholders and the governing team.

  • Carry out audits and spot checks to confirm service delivery by direct employees and subcontractors is of the required quality.

  • Ensure KPIs are achieved and that colleagues understand their role in delivering a safe and efficient service.

  • Manage site budgets, costs, additional works and financial performance where required.

  • Carry out first line management duties, including performance, absence, conduct and employment processes.

What you will bring:

  • Experience in Facilities Management, site management, operational leadership or a similar environment.

  • Strong people management experience, with the ability to lead, support and engage an established team.

  • A good understanding of statutory and mandatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and the ability to apply policies in an operational setting.

  • Experience of working with data, reports, KPIs and performance information to support service delivery.

  • Confidence managing stakeholders and building positive working relationships with clients, internal teams and support functions.

  • Budget awareness and experience of managing costs would be beneficial.

  • A recognised technical, health and safety, or FM qualification would be advantageous, but we are also open to candidates with strong relevant operational leadership experience.

  • Clear, professional and sensitive communication skills.

  • Demonstrable experience of budgeting and managing costs.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
