Job description

Who are we?

Seloxium Limited is a specialist precious metal recovery business, working with mining operations to recover high‑value materials from waste streams. We are a fast‑paced company at an exciting stage of development, scaling our operations across three sites (an R&D laboratory facility in Oxford and two pilot processing plants in the North East of England). As we grow, we are looking for an experienced and capable Facilities Manager to join our team.

About the Role

This is a fast‑paced, dynamic role requiring a hands‑on professional who can ensure both sites operate safely, efficiently, and compliantly in support of our science and engineering activities. As Facilities Manager, you will take end‑to‑end responsibility for the management, maintenance, and compliance of all Seloxium facilities. Working within a fast‑paced and growing SME, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and be expected to manage multiple priorities across both sites simultaneously. Although based in Redcar, Teesside, UK, this is a role that will see you visit in person all Seloxium sites across your working month, so to succeed in this post, you will need to have a full UK driving licence and be able to visit our site in Oxford each month.

You will be responsible for:
Site & Facilities Management
  • Day‑to‑day management of all Seloxium sites – Oxford R&D facility and North East of UK scale‑up sites
  • Developing and maintaining planned preventive maintenance schedules across both sites
  • Managing reactive maintenance, contractor relationships and service agreements
  • Overseeing all aspects of buildings (liaising with landlords), utilities, laboratory infrastructure, and specialist equipment environments
  • Ensuring all sites are maintained to a high standard and remain fit for purpose as the business scales, managing facilities budgets, procurement, and supplier relationships effectively
  • Coordinate laboratory services and site logistics across all locations with colleagues
  • Maintain accurate asset registers, maintenance logs and statutory compliance documentation across both sites
  • Support any future works, refurbishments or site expansions, acting as a key stakeholder in project delivery
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Contribute to Health and safety compliance across both sites, working with senior Seloxium staff (technical & non‑technical), site H&S representatives and the H&S committee – ensuring necessary risk assessments, SOP / method statements, and safe systems of work are in place and reviewed / maintained
  • Contribute to health & safety training and site inductions for staff across all sites
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of site‑specific H&S policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work and emergency procedures, tailored to the specific requirements of laboratory and processing plant environments
  • Conduct regular H&S inspections, audits and walkthroughs across both sites, identifying hazards, driving corrective actions and tracking closure
  • Help manage incident and near‑miss reporting, leading investigations and ensuring lessons learned are communicated and embedded site‑wide
  • Compliance with all relevant statutory regulations including COSHH, RIDDOR, fire safety, electrical safety, and environmental legislation
  • Managing laboratory‑specific safety requirements, including the handling of hazardous materials and specialist equipment
  • Maintaining accurate records, permits, and compliance documentation for both sites
  • Act as the primary point of contact for any regulatory inspections or external audits
  • Liaising with the HSE, local authorities and other regulatory bodies as required, ensuring all statutory reporting and permit obligations are met
Budget & Administration
  • Managing the facilities and H&S budget across all sites, tracking expenditure, reporting plus identifying efficiencies
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of all compliance activities, contractor visits, permits, inspections and certifications – also for insurance purposes
  • Producing regular facilities and H&S performance reports for senior leadership, highlighting risks, actions and progress against key tasks
  • Support with logistics and technical procurement
This role is for you if you have:

  • Demonstrable experience managing laboratory, R&D, or industrial/scale‑up environments
  • Strong working knowledge of health & safety legislation and compliance requirements relevant to scientific and engineering facilities
  • Knowledge of permits and permitting within the UK
  • Experience managing contractors, service providers, and procurement processes
  • A background in or practical understanding of chemistry, chemical engineering, engineering, or building surveying, enabling confident engagement with technical site requirements
  • Valid COSHH awareness or management training
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between North East of UK and Oxford
Ideally if you also have:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent, or IOSH Managing Safely at a minimum
