A leading facilities management company is seeking a Facilities Management Assistant to support the safe and efficient operations of The Staveley Centre in Chesterfield. Responsibilities include building access, security, compliance checks, minor maintenance, and outdoor upkeep. This hands-on role requires good communication, physical ability, and adherence to health and safety procedures. The position is full-time with a pay of £12.61 per hour and requires Enhanced DBS clearance.

Facilities Management Assistant

Job Summary
To support the safe, secure and efficient day-to-day operation of The Staveley Centre through the delivery of professional, customer-focused facilities services. This hands-on role, employed by Vertas, involves building access and security, statutory compliance checks, minor maintenance, portering, administrative support, and upkeep of outdoor pathways and green areas.
Responsibilities
Building Security & Access

  • Open and close the building at the beginning and end of the working day, ensuring all security protocols are followed.
  • Monitor and report any issues regarding site security or safety.


Statutory Compliance & Safety Checks
Carry out scheduled compliance checks including:

  • Fire safety systems - daily, weekly and monthly (alarms, fire doors, extinguishers, emergency lighting).
  • Legionella control measures - weekly and monthly (temperature checks, outlet flushing).
  • Bed and seat sensor system checks for resident support (training provided).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of all checks and report any issues appropriately.


Contractor Management & Asbestos Awareness

  • Welcome and support contractors working on site.
  • Ensure contractors read and sign the Asbestos Risk Register and are aware of restricted areas.
  • Follow site protocols for managing asbestos risk in line with training and instruction.


Minor Maintenance & Portering

  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks such as replacing lightbulbs, fixing loose fittings, and other low-risk repairs.
  • Proactively identify and report building defects or hazards.
  • Move deliveries, stock, or furniture across the site.
  • Set up rooms for meetings, training or other site use as required.


Administrative Support

  • Order and manage stock or materials requested by the site team (e.g. maintenance supplies, equipment).
  • Complete required paperwork, digital logs or reports.
  • Support communication between site and the Vertas facilities team.


Outdoor & Seasonal Duties

  • Carry out light gardening and grounds upkeep (e.g. basic pruning, tidying, litter picking).
  • Keep external pathways clean and safe by removing moss and debris.
  • Grit and clear pathways during ice, snow or severe weather to maintain access and prevent slips or trips.


Person Specification
Essential

  • Enhanced DBS clearance (required prior to appointment).


Additional Information

  • This role is employed by Vertas, delivering facilities management services on-site at The Staveley Centre.
  • The site has its own team of domestic cleaners - this role does not include cleaning responsibilities.
  • Uniform and ID badge will be provided.
  • This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
