Overview

The Facilities and Compliance Officer ensures Old School Thornhill is safe, functional and welcoming, while supporting future projects with their skills and expertise.

Salary: £28,000–£30,000 FTE + 5% pension contribution

Contract: 28 hours/week, 12-month fixe

Old School Thornhill Development Trust celebrates the history of the village and manages Old School Thornhill, a community-owned space for cultural events, local businesses and community gatherings. Our aim is to create a welcoming, inclusive and sustainable environment where local people can connect, imagine, create and thrive.

Role purpose

The Facilities and Compliance Officer is a key member of our team, ensuring the building is safe, functional and responsive to the needs of its users. The role also supports planning and implementing any future capital projects undertaken by the Trust.

Key responsibilities
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Implement safety systems, maintenance schedules and compliance procedures. Ensure adherence to health and safety legislation, conduct risk assessments, coordinate statutory inspections and maintain accurate records. Hold a valid first aid qualification and act as the designated first-aider.
  • Facilities Management: Oversee day-to-day building operations, supervise cleaning staff, coordinate maintenance, monitor building systems and ensure high standards of cleanliness. Manage waste and recycling processes.
  • User Liaison & Event Support: Act as first point of contact for users and visitors. Prepare spaces for events, meetings and classes, including furniture layout and technical setup. Support bookings and coordinate with staff as needed.
  • Operational Support: Monitor and restock supplies, arrange repairs for equipment, assist with basic outdoor upkeep and support volunteers in building-related activities.
  • Finance & Administration: Coordinate billing and payments for services and maintain records of expenditure.
  • Flexible Duties: Undertake training, occasional evening/weekend work and other reasonable duties requested by the Development Manager
Person specification
  • Essential: Experience in facilities or building management, strong knowledge of health & safety regulations, first aid qualification, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Desirable: Experience in the community or third sector, basic IT skills, interest in sustainability, knowledge of Thornhill and surrounding areas.
