Job description

Job Purpose

Work flexibly as part of the Zone Facilities Services Team to provide cleaning services, ensuring facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Deliver a responsive, customer-focused cleaning and facilities service demonstrating teamwork, high productivity, and quality of service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Customer Service: Provide friendly, proactive cleaning support. Respond to enquiries from staff, students, and visitors, and promote a positive image of the University by maintaining professionalism and wearing protective clothing.
  2. Operational: Provide planned and reactive cleaning services to meet service standards, including cleaning surfaces, waste disposal, laundry support, emergency spillages, graffiti removal, and snow clearing when required. Use equipment efficiently, restock consumables, and report faults to the helpdesk. Collaborate with facilities teams for seamless service delivery.
  3. Health & Safety: Follow safe working practices, use protective equipment, manage keys and alarms securely, and assist with emergency procedures including fire safety and evacuations.
  4. Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Essential: Demonstrated competencies for the role or equivalent qualifications; knowledge of cleaning standards; ability to achieve university training certificates; understanding of health and safety policies; ability to operate cleaning machinery safely; numeracy skills; self-motivation; customer care skills; willingness to develop skills; manual handling skills.
  • Desirable: Interest in university services; experience with specialised cleaning equipment; supporting fire evacuation procedures.
  • Terms and Conditions: Salary Grade 2 (£21,900/year pro-rata) plus 6% shift allowance. Part-time, 17.5 hours/week, with shifts from 06:00 to 15:45 on Saturday and Sunday. Join a welcoming, inclusive community that values ambition, excellence, and integrity.
