Job Purpose

Work flexibly as part of the Zone Facilities Services Team to provide cleaning services, ensuring facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Deliver a responsive, customer-focused cleaning and facilities service demonstrating teamwork, high productivity, and quality of service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Provide friendly, proactive cleaning support. Respond to enquiries from staff, students, and visitors, and resolve problems positively. Maintain a professional appearance, wear protective clothing, and promote a positive image of the University.
  • Operational: Provide planned and reactive cleaning services to meet service standards, including cleaning surfaces, waste disposal, laundry support, emergency spillages, graffiti removal, and snow clearing when required. Use equipment economically, restock consumables, and report faults or maintenance issues.
  • Health & Safety: Follow safe working practices, use PPE, manage keys and alarms responsibly, report security breaches, and assist in emergency procedures, including fire safety and evacuations.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Knowledge /Qualifications: Demonstrate competencies for this role or have Level 3 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework (or equivalent). Knowledge of cleaning standards and health and safety policies, including fire safety and manual handling.
  • Skills: Safe operation of cleaning equipment, numeracy, communication skills, self-motivation, customer care, willingness to learn, manual handling for porterage duties.
  • Experience: Previous cleaning or facilities experience preferred but not essential; experience with customer interactions and fire evacuation procedures is advantageous.

Terms and Conditions:

Salary: Grade 2, £21,900 per annum, pro-rata, plus 6% shift allowance. Part-time (17.5 hours/week), open-ended. Shifts: 06:00–15:45, Saturday and Sunday.
