Job description

Young Responders is an exciting project that started delivering street first aid sessions in 2023 as part of St John Ambulance. The project aims to engage and empower young people from diverse communities facing health inequities through practical first aid and mental awareness sessions. The programme targets young people aged 11 to 25, focusing on those who typically do not access traditional first aid training.

In 2023, the Young Responders team delivered sessions to nearly 16,000 young people, with plans to reach a further 25,000 in 2024. The goal is to expand this impact further.

Role Overview

As a Facilitator, you will support the growth of the service by leading and delivering first aid training sessions with community organisations and educational settings. You will also provide pastoral support, mentoring, and guidance to volunteers, ensuring their welfare and wellbeing. This is a casual hourly role covering the entire region, so travel is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and deliver community first aid sessions in collaboration with Project Coordinators, ensuring all training is risk assessed and resources are managed.
  2. Build and maintain partnerships with local organisations, educational settings, and stakeholders to support project delivery.
  3. Support and guide volunteers, providing pastoral care, safeguarding awareness, and ensuring their welfare.
  4. Promote the project through community engagement, PR, and social media channels.
  5. Oversee administrative tasks such as enrolment, feedback collection, and review consolidation.
  6. Undertake additional duties that contribute to service improvement and sharing success stories.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience in youth work or engaging young people from underserved communities.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver community-based training.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with stakeholders.
  • Experience in pastoral support or mentoring, especially with young people with complex needs.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and apply safeguarding principles.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and willingness to undertake relevant training.
