Job summary

Tyréns AKT in London is seeking a highly motivated Façade Designer to join our team, contributing to delivery of engineering design projects from concept through practical completion. You will work across sectors including commercial, healthcare, retail, education, hospitality, and more, producing detailed designs and drawings and coordinating with clients, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.
• Strong working knowledge of BS/EN standards.
• Excellent written, verbal and sketching communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with client, architect and other consultants to determine best facade design outcomes.
• Design project details under guidance of team leader or Associate Director.
• Produce concept sketches, detailed designs, calculations and reports per project programme.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure design and detailing work aligns with the project.
• Review design deliverables for compliance with specifications and guidance/standards.
• Coordinate with project teams to resolve issues and meet deliverables.
• Maintain internal document control of drawings.
• Edit specifications to clarify technical requirements.
• Review facade contractor’s tender returns and design submissions.
• Witness testing of facade systems.

The position.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Façade Designer to join our team and contribute to the successful delivery of engineering design projects from initial concept through to practical completion. Working across a diverse portfolio of sectors, including commercial, healthcare, retail, industrial, education, hospitality, leisure, and other specialist environments, you will play a key role in producing detailed designs and technical drawings. The role also involves liaising closely with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective coordination of design and detailing work to meet project requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in innovative, high-quality façade solutions within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

The role and responsibilities.

• Working with the client, architect and other engineering consultants to determine the best facade design outcomes.
• Design of project details under the guidance of a team leader or Associate Director.
• Producing concept sketches, detailed designs, calculations and reports in accordance with project programmes.
• Liaising with other disciplines and ensuring the coordination of design and detailing work appropriate to the project.
• Review and evaluate design deliverables to advise on compliance with specifications and industry guidance/standards.
• Coordinate with project teams to resolve project related issues and ensure deliverables are met.
• Maintain internal document control of drawings.
• Edit specifications to clarify the technical requirements of the design.
• Review facade contractor’s tender returns and design submissions.
• Witness testing of facade systems.

Required Skills.

• Experience with developing and presenting ideas to Architects, Clients and Contractors in meetings.
• Sketching - ability to communicate ideas and develop concepts using hand sketches.
• Design/Detailing - competence in 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Building Physics - understanding of the principles governing thermal performance, condensation risk, etc and how they are applied in facade design.
• Structure - understanding how the principles of structural mechanics are applied in facade design. Software knowledge, preferably Strand, Autodesk Robot and SJ Mepla.
• Knowledge of materials, systems and installation techniques.
• Report writing - ability to compile well written text with suitable images.
• Familiarity with facade system designs, fabrication and assembly techniques.
• Ability to understand and react to design changes and budget constraints.

Qualifications And Experience.

• Relevant degree (Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.) and preferably a relevant postgraduate degree.
• Relevant experience with a strong working knowledge of BS/EN standards.
• A rounded knowledge of the engineering aspects of facade design and construction.
• Strong written, verbal and sketching communication skills.
• A collaborative approach.
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
