Job summary

Sanderson Design Group in Lancaster is seeking a skilled Digital Bulk Colourist to join the Digital team at Standfast & Barracks. You will operate as a fully trained Colourist, matching colours accurately and maintaining shade standards while supporting efficient workflow on 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00 shifts.

Job TITLE – Digital Bulk Colourist

Reports to – Prints Manager

Location – Standfast & Barracks, Lancaster

Department – Digital

Scope of job - To operate as a fully trained and competent Colourist within the Digital Bulk Colouration department. Responsible for accurate colour matching, maintaining colour standards, understanding digital profiles, and ensuring the department meets required quality, output, and efficiency levels. Expected to run full shifts effectively (6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm only) while supporting smooth workflow and consistent shade accuracy.

Purpose - To uphold high standards of shade matching aligned with customer expectations while maintaining efficient departmental workflow. The role requires strong communication, problem ‑ solving, and a thorough understanding of the digital colouration process to ensure quality, efficiency, and operational targets are met.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with Design regarding initials, artwork requirements, and job allocation.
  • Follow and maintain all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within the Digital Bulk Colouration area.
  • Maintain departmental standards and achieve targets set for the digital production area.
  • Complete sample work and development tasks when requested.
  • Independently run shift operations during 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00 working hours.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping across the department.
  • Work in accordance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Undertake additional reasonable duties as requested by leadership.
  • Demonstrate competency in altering colour in both CAD and Bulk colouration situations.
  • Create, maintain, and uphold shade standards and continuity records.
  • Develop a working understanding of related digital processes.
  • Communicate effectively with Supervisors to support efficient workflow.
  • Ensure good communication and collaboration with operatives and the wider production team.
  • Follow the NCR procedure accurately.
  • Prioritise orders effectively when required to support production demands.
  • Communicate professionally with Customer Services when necessary.
  • Follow planned production structures and maintain spreadsheets/logs (e.g., fent data, shade files).
  • Support the digital team when required, offering guidance and assistance.
  • Train others within the colouration area when requested.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and effective performance during operational changes.
Measures of success
  • Successful completion and ongoing competence across all relevant colouration processes.
  • Strong attendance and timekeeping.
  • Quality performance aligned with departmental targets.
  • Efficiency output – including machine pass rate and minimising downtime.
Connecting with others
  • Communicate professionally, politely, and responsively at all times.
  • Engage effectively with Operations leadership, Digital Senior Staff, Digital Colourists & Trainees, Digital Operatives, Batchers & Trainees, Print Ancillary teams, Customer Services, Sales teams, and customers when required.
Qualification
  • Maths & English – minimum Grade C or equivalent.
  • Computer literate with experience in CAD/Photoshop.

  • Knowledge of digital colouration software/systems.
  • Strong organisational and time ‑ management skills.
  • Team player able to work independently when needed.
  • Excellent eye for colour and shade matching.
