Job description

Sheet Metal Fabricator / Welder required immediately for a permanent role in Altrincham / Knutsford, WA16 Area. Applicants will ideally be time served, have experience of fabricating, welding and operating Pressbrake & Bandsaw / Vertical Cutting Machine to cut metals such as carbon / stainless steel and aluminium. Will also undertake daily stores / stock control duties. The salary is up to GBP30,000 pa (DoE) + excellent bens (see below) possibly more for any candidates with supervisory / Team Leader experience.

Job Objective: Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, provide sub-components, fabricated frames and guarding for manufactured machinery in accordance with detailed drawings and to agreed deadlines and quality standards.

The successful Sheet Metal Fabricator / Welder day to day duties will include:

  • Cut, form and drill sub-components up to inspection stage
  • Carry out dimensional inspection prior to welding
  • Carry out welding operation with allowances for distortion and shrinkage and consideration for final polishing operation.
  • Undertake plasma cutting operations in a safe manner when required.
  • Operate the press brake in a safe manner
  • Undertake internal inspection of all completed jobs prior to despatch to main site.
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation is completed promptly and accurately
  • Ensure that completed documentation is despatched with the finished components to the main company works
  • Provide cover in the polishing area as required. Both in pre-polishing and final polishing when the need arises.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area on a daily basis
  • Ensure that scrap material is stored appropriately
  • Ensure that machines are left in a clean and safe condition
  • Assist colleagues with problems that arise offering practical and appropriate solutions.
  • Deal professionally, competently and courteously with suppliers and colleagues in verbal and written communications.

To be suitable for this Fabricator / Sheet Metal Worker / Welder role you must have the following experience / characteristics:

  • Must have recent experience of fabricating metals such as cutting, grinding and polishing.
  • Recently operated a Bandsaw / Vertical Cutting Machine to cut metals such as carbon / stainless steel and aluminium. Part completion of apprenticeship, qualifications or training in Sheet Metal Fabrication / Welding.
  • The ability to read engineering drawings and use dimensional measuring equipment to measure fabricated parts.
  • The ability to work unsupervised.

The ideal Fabricator / Sheet Metal Worker / Welder will have the following experience / characteristics:

  • Time served / completed apprenticeship in engineering, sheet metal or fabrication environment.
  • Fabrication and welding on stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Previous experience of operating press brake, punch press and guillotine.
  • Able to TIG & MIG weld to a good standard, previously coded.
  • Previous stores / stock control experience.
  • Current or lapsed FLT C/B licence.(desirable)
