Job summary

Dovetail and Slate in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking a Fabrication & Welding Lecturer to deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons to students undertaking Level 1 to Level 3 EAL qualifications and Engineering Apprenticeships. You'll help learners build knowledge, practical skills and confidence for industry success.

This is a full-time permanent role with upskilling opportunities, including fully funded teacher training to support your transition into education and a rewarding teaching

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Fabrication & Welding or a closely related discipline.
• Recent industry experience within fabrication and welding.
• A passion for developing others and sharing your industry knowledge.
• Teaching qualification (Desirable).
• Experience delivering EAL qualifications or apprenticeship training (Desirable).
• Assessing or IQA qualifications (Desirable).

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality practical fabrication and welding training.
• Teach the theoretical knowledge that underpins engineering practice.
• Support full-time students and apprentices to achieve their qualifications.
• Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and employers to ensure outstanding learner outcomes.

Salary: 34,000 - 37,000 per annum

We're looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Fabrication & Welding Lecturer to join our growing team in Barrow. Whether you're an experienced teacher or currently working in industry, we'd love to hear from you. If you have the right industry experience, we'll provide fully funded teacher training to help you transition into an inspiring and rewarding career in education.

About the Role

As a Fabrication & Welding Lecturer, you'll deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons to students studying Level 1 to Level 3 EAL qualifications and Engineering Apprenticeships. You'll play a key role in developing the next generation of skilled engineers, supporting learners to build the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to succeed in the industry.

Teaching will take place in both our well-equipped workshops and classroom environments, with responsibilities including:

• Delivering high-quality practical fabrication and welding training.
• Teaching the theoretical knowledge that underpins engineering practice.
• Supporting full-time students and apprentices to achieve their qualifications.
• Assessing learner progress and providing constructive feedback.
• Creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Fabrication & Welding or a closely related discipline.
• Recent industry experience within fabrication and welding.
• A passion for developing others and sharing your industry knowledge.

Desirable (but not essential):

• Teaching qualification.
• Experience delivering EAL qualifications or apprenticeship training.
• Assessing or IQA qualifications.

Don't have teaching experience? No problem. We actively welcome applications from industry professionals and will provide fully funded teacher training and ongoing support to help you become an outstanding lecturer.
