Job summary

Dovetail and Slate is recruiting a Fabrication & Welding Assessor to support apprentices in Yorkshire and the Humber. You’ll manage a caseload, visit workplaces to assess competence, and coach learners toward End-Point Assessment with timely feedback.

The role requires substantial industry experience in fabrication and welding, excellent communication, and the ability to build strong relationships with apprentices and employers while maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Qualifications

• Extensive industry experience in fabrication and welding.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently with varied caseload.
• Full UK driving licence; willing to travel.
• Experience mentoring apprentices is desirable.
• Assessing TAQA or A1 desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of fabrication and welding apprentices.
• Carry out regular workplace visits to assess competence and monitor progress.
• Complete assessment documentation and maintain learner records.
• Coach apprentices to achieve apprenticeship standards.
• Prepare apprentices for End-Point Assessment.
• Monitor off-the-job training and ensure apprenticeship requirements are met.
• Work with employers to support apprentices in the workplace.
• Attend standardisation meetings and CPD activities.

Permanent - Full Time

Location: Yorkshire and the Humber

Salary: 30,000 - 35,000 per annum

Are you an experienced fabrication and welding professional looking to pass your skills on to the next generation of tradespeople?

About the Role

You’ll join a further education provider in Yorkshire and the Humber and the Humber, supporting apprentices working towards their fabrication and welding qualifications. You’ll manage a caseload of learners, visiting them in the workplace to assess their competence and monitor their progress.

You’ll work closely with employers to make sure apprentices get the support they need on site, and you’ll coach learners through to End-Point Assessment with constructive, timely feedback.

• Managing a caseload of fabrication and welding apprentices.
• Carrying out regular workplace visits to assess competence and monitor progress.
• Completing assessment documentation and maintaining accurate learner records.
• Coaching and supporting apprentices to achieve their apprenticeship standards.
• Preparing apprentices for End-Point Assessment.
• Monitoring off-the-job training and ensuring apprenticeship requirements are met.

Essential Qualification

• NVQ Level 3 in Fabrication & Welding (or equivalent)

About You

• Is able to work independently and manage a varied caseload
• Holds a full UK driving licence and is willing to travel to employer sites
• Has experience supporting or mentoring apprentices or learners (desirable but not essential)
• Holds an assessing qualification such as TAQA or A1 (desirable but not essential)
