Job summary

McGeoch Technology Ltd. is recruiting a Fabrication / Welder for their Birmingham facility. The role involves welding mild steel, aluminium, and stainless steel components from 1mm–10mm thickness, with emphasis on high finish and tight tolerances.

You will read drawings, interpret weld procedures, and work with the design team to ensure timely delivery and quality. The position includes late-shift allowance and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Proven knowledge and experience of Industrial Fabrication.
• BS EN ISO 15614-1 & BS EN ISO 15614-2 accreditation (in date)
• Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, weld procedures and work instructions.
• Ability to recognise welding symbols and specifications.
• Be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team-player.

Responsibilities

• Fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless-steel & Aluminium components to high finish and tolerance standards.
• Weld components and framework using a TIG welding process.
• Position, align and fit parts according to specifications.
• Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand/power tools.
• Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
• Operate manual machine tools as required in fabrication.
• Maintain tools, gauges and equipment, keep workspace tidy and safe.

Job description

Reporting to the Production Manager as part of the Fabrication / Welder team, your responsibilities will be preparation and welding of mild steel, Aluminium, Stainless steel, thicknesses of material will range from 1mm - 10mm.

Your duties will include but not be limited to the following:

• Fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless-steel & Aluminium components as required ensuring that the highest standards in finish and tolerances, in accordance with information supplied, are achieved using sound "trade" methods.
• Must hold the following accreditations, BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 and approved to weld Butt, Fillet and plug.
• Weld components and framework using a TIG welding process.
• Position align and fit parts according to specifications.
• Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard.
• Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
• All Fabrications tasks are to be completed in the agreed (quoted) time frames or better.
• Operation of manual machine tools, as part of the fabrication process when required.
• Machines to be kept in a tidy and well-maintained manner, which would require maintenance be undertaken from time to time.
• Ensure that the supply of consumables, i.e. gas, welding wire etc. does not run which could affect the job.
• Work with the Manager to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Maintains tools, gauges and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
• Display flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to assist the company in meeting production goals.
• Liaise with design team and give input into new designs.
• Complete administrative tasks as required.
• Work from drawing without supervision.
• Report drawing errors.

Required knowledge and experience:

• Proven knowledge and experience of Industrial Fabrication.
• Significant Industry exposure.
• BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 accreditation (in date)

The successful applicant will be based at our client's production facility in Birmingham city centre.
