Job description

Job Description

The post is based in the Estates Department. Work undertaken will cover the Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust property portfolio, including remote locations. All team members are required to work unsupervised within departmental procedures and prioritize their work schedule.

A requirement to participate in the Estates out-of-hours On-Call rota, approximately 1 in every 4-6 weeks.

Working closely with Estates Officers, you will be responsible for supervising a multi-disciplined workforce to deliver a variety of tasks that ensure a safe, suitable, and sufficient environment within an acute hospital setting.

You will provide guidance and support to staff and contractors, including managing complex or non-routine issues, minor works, and contractor activities.

Lead by example to ensure all statutory, regulatory, and mandatory obligations are met, working with Estates Officers to develop best practices for compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Interpret technical information, undertake fault diagnosis, analyze equipment suitability, and propose solutions.
  2. Plan, prioritize, and supervise a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with management, service users, contractors, and agencies.
  3. Supervise directly the workforce, including managing timekeeping, rotas, overtime, discipline, and performance issues.
  4. Conduct return-to-work interviews following staff absences.
  5. Plan maintenance activities, prioritize repairs, and source supplies using technical knowledge.
  6. Manage safe access to work areas, including issuing keys and permits to minimize disruption.
  7. Provide quotations, assist with procurement, and maintain stock and supplies.
  8. Record and support maintenance governance activities.
  9. Ensure safety procedures are followed in all work practices and use of equipment.
  10. Participate in training and assist with staff induction.
  11. Participate in an emergency on-call rota and assist in emergencies as directed.
  12. Perform other duties as delegated by the Estates Officer.
