Job description

As a specialist in electronics and software for the past 20 years, in-tech is a dynamic, fast growing engineering company headquartered in Munich, Germany employing around 2350 employees globally across 20 project locations in 8 countries.

in-tech develops innovative engineering solutions for the automotive, rail, aerospace, defence, and industrial sectors.

We are committed to a flexible, modern work culture and work-life balance. Our colour orange stands for liveliness, warmth, and dynamism. We value a strong team spirit, fresh ideas and a positive work culture. We call it the "Orange Spirit"!

Since 2024, in-tech became a subsidiary of Infosys Ltd. This strategic partnership enables us to offer our customers even more comprehensive development and digitalisation services and a greater offshore capability.

We are looking for a Fatigue and Damage Stress Engineer to join our aerospace engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing Fatigue and Damage Tolerance (F&DT) analysis for airframe structures in accordance with Airbus methods, principles, and standards. The position requires strong hands-on experience in fatigue life assessment, crack propagation analysis, damage tolerance evaluation, and structural stress analysis for metallic and composite aircraft structures. If you are passionate about aerospace structural analysis, have strong expertise in fatigue and damage tolerance, and enjoy working in a technically demanding environment, we’d love to connect with you.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Analysis of airframe structures in accordance with Airbus methods and procedures.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of fatigue design philosophies, principles, and methods to assess structural integrity and life performance.
  • Analyse structural failure modes and fatigue failure characteristics for aircraft components and assemblies.
  • Conduct fatigue assessment for various types of fatigue scenarios using established aerospace engineering methodologies.
  • Perform fatigue analysis of metallic and fastener parts using the AFI method.
  • Support and execute composite fatigue analysis where required.
  • Carry out crack propagation and damage tolerance analysis using different NASGRO models.
  • Assess damage tolerance conditions in different crack stages, including corner crack, through crack, and related crack growth conditions.
  • Determine critical crack length, detectable crack length, and inspection thresholds for crack propagation analysis.
  • Evaluate and support inspection technique considerations relevant to crack detection and crack propagation assessment.
  • Identify PSEs (Principal Structural Elements) and assess their fatigue and damage tolerance requirements.
  • Calculate key parameters such as Stress Concentration Factor (Kt), Wide Spread Fatigue Damage factors, and effects related to size, material, joints, machining quality, and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform Fatigue Index Calculation (AFI) and Fatigue Equivalent Stress calculations, including extraction of reference stresses from 1DBJ and 2DBJ spectra.
  • Conduct fatigue spectrum analysis for various mission profiles and support damage simulation analysis.
  • Perform fatigue life estimation and detailed damage tolerance analysis for structural parts and assemblies.
  • Carry out damage tolerance assessments for SLP (Single Load Path), MLP (Multiple Load Path), and DCF (Damage Contaminant Feature) structures.
  • Define initial crack assumptions and determine critical crack length, airworthiness limitation items, thresholds, and inspection intervals.
  • Support low-life mitigation activities and recommend mitigation techniques based on OEM-driven processes.
  • Prepare and maintain fatigue and damage tolerance documentation such as ACD, ACS, DSD, SCNs, and Stress Dossiers.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure analysis outputs meet quality, certification, and airworthiness requirements.
Requirements
  • BE / BTech / MTech / MS or equivalent degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of hands-on experience in aerospace structural stress analysis.
  • Proven experience working on Airbus aircraft programs such as A320, A330, A350, A380, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of Fatigue Design Guidelines, Principles, and Methods.
  • Solid hands-on experience in Fatigue Life Calculation.
  • Strong expertise in Crack Propagation Analysis and Damage Tolerance Analysis.
  • Good understanding of damage tolerance calculations across different crack scenarios, including corner crack, through crack, and related crack configurations.
  • Knowledge of fatigue criteria used in crack propagation analysis for determination of critical crack length.
  • Awareness and practical understanding of inspection techniques used in crack propagation and damage tolerance evaluations.
  • Experience in detectable crack length determination.
  • Strong FEA experience using HYPERMESH, NASTRAN, and PATRAN.
  • Experience in fatigue and damage tolerance analysis of both metallic and composite structures.
  • Good understanding of structural airworthiness requirements and fatigue-related certification constraints.
