Job summary

Mount Street Primary School in Plymouth is seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant to join the Reception team on a temporary maternity cover basis. You will support young learners as they begin their educational journey, working closely with the class teacher to create a stimulating and inclusive environment.

The role focuses on EYFS delivery, play-based learning, safeguarding, and collaborative work with staff, parents and carers to monitor pupil progress.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
• At least one year's experience working in a primary school, ideally within an Early Years or Reception setting.
• Experience supporting children with additional needs.
• A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A positive, enthusiastic and flexible approach to supporting children and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the EYFS curriculum.
• Encourage learning through play, exploration and child-led activities.
• Help children develop positive personal, social and emotional skills.
• Support children with additional needs, including SEND and EAL pupils.
• Assist with observations, assessments and learning journals.
• Prepare and maintain engaging indoor and outdoor learning environments.
• Deliver planned learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher.
• Promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
• Work collaboratively with staff, parents and carers to support pupil progress.
• Provide classroom and administrative support as required.
• Support pupils during lunchtime play and educational visits.
