Job description

Role: Extra Care Scheme Manager

The Extra Care Scheme Manager is responsible for the on-site care and support services delivered within the scheme 24 hours per day. The role involves leading, managing, and supporting a team of senior care workers and support staff to provide reliable, responsive, person-centered care to residents. You will promote residents' independence, security, and wellbeing, working in partnership with the on-site Housing Provider team, the Local Authority, and third-sector organizations involved in supporting residents. Additionally, you will oversee the day-to-day management of the scheme, continuously developing and improving on-site services to meet residents' needs, ensuring compliance with quality standards, regulatory, company, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the overall setting.
  2. Ensure robust, person-centered care plans are in place to deliver agreed outcomes.
  3. Maintain regular liaison with social workers, social services, commissioners, health authorities, District Nurses, voluntary organizations, and other professionals involved in service integration.
  4. Manage the budget, including profit and loss responsibilities.
  5. Lead investigations into complaints, safeguarding concerns, or incidents, ensuring responses meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  6. Support and develop staff through coaching, inductions, training, personal development reviews, and mentoring.
  7. Produce, monitor, review, and report on KPIs in line with contractual requirements.
  8. Participate in allocation/panel meetings with the Housing Manager, making recommendations and offers to potential residents to ensure a balanced community.
  9. Manage the Business Continuity Plan, collaborating with the Housing Provider on fire evacuation and emergency planning.
  10. Work with the Housing Provider to ensure a range of activities are available, encouraging participation.
  11. Liaise with health services regarding medication administration, recording, and supervision according to policies and procedures.
  12. Provide direct care and support to residents in emergencies when appropriate.
  13. Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders involved in residents' care, including professionals, families, and advocates.
  14. Attend supervision, staff, and team meetings, as well as training sessions, which may be off-site.

Experience:

  • Understanding the needs of older people and the purpose of Extra Care Housing.
  • Knowledge of best practices and innovation in an Extra Care Scheme setting.
  • Experience in supervising medication.
  • Proven leadership in care and support services.
  • Ability to produce reports, meet deadlines, and adhere to contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Experience in managing shift patterns and maintaining safe staffing levels.

Desirable:

  • Experience in staff rostering using rostering systems.
  • Previous experience managing on-site care and support within an Extra Care setting.
