Job summary

Hull City Council seeks a Cook to lead and develop the Council's Catering Department, with strong craft skills, menu creation and nutritional data in line with Caroline Walker Trust standards for adults.

You will train staff, drive improvements, and manage day-to-day catering operations, including ordering, cash handling, and compliance with HACCP and health and safety regulations. This is a full-time, permanent role offering career development and a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a catering service and menu development.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and Natasha’s Law requirements.
  • Ability to train and supervise a team.
  • Ability to research and develop new dishes and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the service in line with government guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment per current legislation.
  • Produce and develop menus with high-quality service.
  • Lead and support a customer-focused workforce.
  • Order goods, supplies and services from nominated suppliers.
  • Develop and train staff through induction, achievement and development interviews.
  • Organise regular staff/manager/customer meetings.
  • Promote department aims to internal and external partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Catering Manager to improve the service.
  • Reconcile and control on-site cash/income processes and procedures.
  • Manage computerised pre-payment till systems and kitchen tools.

Effective management and craft skills are essential in this position. Also, must possess ability to create menus, produce nutritional data showing compliance with food standards for the Caroline Walker Trust standards for adults and be up to date with current trends in the commercial catering with ability and skill to research, develop and produce new dishes. Must also possess the ability to train others where improvements are needed.This post requires a modern approach to individual employees and team development, which will also require coaching/training and development skills to ensure the department achieves its objectives.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:1. To develop the service in line with management and Government guidelines.2. Statutory Obligations - To maintain an organised, safe and hygienic working environment in accordance with current legislation and corporate policies. HACCP/Natasha’s Law legislation.3. To produce, develop all menus and providing a consistently high-quality service to our customers.4. To lead, develop and support a customer focused workforce.5. To order goods, supplies and services from nominated suppliers in accordance with corporate, divisional, and departmental procedures and administration processes.6. To develop and train all employees and administration processes through induction, achievement, and development interviews and on site-based training.7. To organise and record details of regular meetings with staff/managers /site managers/customers and tenants’ meetings.8.
