Job summary

SGN is seeking an External Affairs Officer to be the core link between SGN and political engagement in Holyrood and the Scottish Government. You will help shape engagement plans, monitor parliamentary activity, and ensure a consistent voice across stakeholders.

You will coordinate meetings, events, and briefing materials to support senior leadership. The role focuses on building relationships with MSPs, ministers, and officials, translating complex policy debates into clear communications, and

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in a political office or related setting.
• Solid grasp of Scottish parliamentary procedures.
• Understanding of Scottish Government operations.
• Ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communications about policy.
• Experience coordinating political logistics and events.

Responsibilities

• Supporting political engagement – assist engagement with Holyrood and the Scottish Government and follow up actions.
• Leading Logistics & Events – plan and deliver SGN presence at conferences and key events.
• Strategic Stakeholder Mapping – develop engagement plans with think tanks, NGOs and officials.
• Intelligence and Monitoring – monitor parliamentary activity and prepare internal updates.
• Building Brand Profile – lead meetings with MSPs and researchers and prepare briefing materials.
• Campaign Support – help develop and execute public affairs campaigns.
