Extended Scope Nurse in Women's and Reproductive Health

HRH is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative nurse passionate about women's health to join our expanding team. The Extended Scope Nurse will support the clinical lead at HRH's Women's Health Hub, providing triage and specialist nursing advice with a holistic approach to managing women's general and sexual health needs.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a passionate nurse to join our team, supporting women's health through triage, advice, and clinical care. You will have full NMC registration and at least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, ideally with a focus on women's health; training will be provided.

You should be a team player, self-motivated, and capable of taking responsibility. Opportunities include leading projects and service improvements.

You should be competent in clinical skills such as vaginal speculum examinations and supporting women with contraception, implant and coil fitting/removal, cervical screening, pessary fitting, menopause advice, and HRT management, with training provided as needed.

This role offers a chance to develop your skills and contribute significantly to improving women's health in our community.

Job responsibilities
  • Act as an autonomous clinician.
  • Provide a PCN-wide specialist women's health service for women aged 14 to post-menopause.
  • Support the clinical lead with triage, booking, and signposting.
  • Maintain NMC registration and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Provide HRT assessment, advice, and treatment.
  • Examine, assess, diagnose, and treat vulval skin conditions.
  • Manage symptoms and investigations related to gynecological, fertility, and hormonal conditions, referring as needed.
  • Offer comprehensive contraceptive services, managing contraindications.
  • Monitor patients on high-risk drugs, ensuring reproductive safety.
  • Participate in national screening programs such as cervical screening.
  • Order and manage pathology tests and results.
  • Deliver services including IUD, pessary fitting, and SDI.
  • Perform routine assessments like blood pressure, mental health screening, and phlebotomy.
  • Manage sexually transmitted infections according to guidelines.
  • Promote sexual health and develop links with local agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Ensure safe, effective practice within competence boundaries.
  • Meet QOF targets.
  • Work within NMC scope and communicate effectively.
  • Participate in meetings, audits, and mandatory training.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Full and unrestricted NMC registration.
  • Competent in vaginal speculum examinations.
  • Proficient with IT systems, including EMIS Web.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently, and under pressure.
  • Experience in general practice and in supporting women’s health services.
  • Willingness to undertake training in IUCD, SDI, pessary fitting, menopause care, and cervical screening.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This position requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975, with application to the DBS for any criminal convictions.

Salary: £32,341 to £47,867 per year. HRH typically appoints at the bottom of this scale.
