As a Detective Constable, you can change your life and the lives of others.

Being a detective is demanding, diverse, and fulfilling. You will work on cyber-crime, domestic abuse, child protection, homicide, drug importation, and organized crime; analyzing evidence, interviewing suspects, and taking cases to court to seek justice.

If you have compassion, tenacity, a desire for justice, and emotional resilience, a detective career may suit you.

This is an intensive course requiring commitment. In return, you will receive a good salary, supportive environment, training, progression opportunities, and a graduate diploma in professional policing practice upon completion.

You will be paid a full-time salary of £28,551 plus £2,000 South East Allowance.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply to DCEP you must:

  • Be aged 17+ at application, 18+ to start.
  • Have lived in the UK for 3 continuous years prior to application and have indefinite leave to remain.
  • Hold a current full UK manual driving licence by appointment.
  • Not be a member of proscribed terrorist groups.
  • Not have offensive tattoos.
  • Not have serious motoring offences or 6+ points on your licence.
Qualification Requirements

To qualify for DCEP, you need:

  • At least one A Level (A*-C) and another A*-E or equivalent, or a Level 3 qualification with at least 48 UCAS points.
  • GCSE English at grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent. Degree holders are exempt unless their degree was in a language other than English.

Proof of qualifications must be provided with your application. Final-year students can apply with predicted grades, but must submit proof upon receiving results.

Work experience can be considered if you:

  • Are a current or recent (within 18 months) Special Constable or PCSO with independent patrol experience.
  • Are a current or recent (within 18 months) Investigating Officer, PIP Investigator, Contact Officer, or Controller with 18+ months service.
  • Have served at least 2 years in armed forces or similar law enforcement within the last 5 years with exemplary references.

If you meet these, complete the Level 3 form and submit with your application. Work experience can also be assessed against a Level 3 framework if you believe it's equivalent.
