Job description

JM Civalleri, a civil and construction engineering firm specialising in practical, sustainable infrastructure solutions for public and private sector clients, is seeking an Export Control Compliance Officer to join its growing team. As the firm continues to expand its global project portfolio, partnerships, and client base, ensuring robust export control and sanctions compliance has become a critical function within the business. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping and maintaining a compliance framework that directly enables international growth.

In this role, you will serve as a specialist resource for the UK business, providing expert guidance on export control regulations and advising on both strategic and operational matters. You will work closely with project teams, legal counsel, and senior leadership to identify and manage risk, ensuring the firm operates within applicable regulatory boundaries across all jurisdictions. The position offers meaningful exposure to complex, high-value infrastructure projects and the chance to build a compliance function with real business impact.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compliance professional with 3–5 years of experience who is eager to deepen their expertise in export control and sanctions in a technically rigorous, engineering-led environment. JM Civalleri's collaborative culture and commitment to clear communication mean you will be a valued voice across the organisation, not just a back-office function.

Assess and manage the firm's internal and external risk profile in relation to export control and international trade compliance

Develop and deliver training programmes to raise export control awareness across project and business development teams

Monitor regulatory developments and update internal policies, procedures, and controls to reflect changes in export control legislation

Conduct internal audits and due diligence reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with export control and sanctions obligations

Nice to have
  • Experience in the engineering, defence, or infrastructure sector
  • Familiarity with dual-use goods and technology classifications
  • Knowledge of ITAR, EAR, or UK Strategic Export Controls
  • Professional qualification in trade compliance or export control (e.g. CITF)
