Job summary

Newcastle University is launching a new Research Assistant role in Experimental Physics within the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. The position focuses on confined fluidic transport and hands-on measurements across microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, under a 9-month fixed-term contract.

The candidate should work both collaboratively and independently, contributing to research outputs and dissemination, with an anticipated start around 1 September 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience with measurements, data analysis and programming relevant to physics research.
• Experience in setting up in-house experiments and measurement techniques (e.g. optical microscopy and vibrational spectroscopy).
• Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to organise research activities and manage time.

Responsibilities

• Nanomaterial characterisation and building customised measurement set-ups.
• Carry out material and device characterisation and data analysis.
• Collaborate with colleagues and industrial partners on original research tasks.
