Experienced Trauma/Orthopaedic Physiotherapist band 6

Provide a high standard of trauma and orthopaedic physiotherapy service primarily to patients within Torbay Hospital in-patients and the wider Trust if required.

We are a dynamic and friendly team with a wide skill mix, working closely with other MDT members on the wards. We work flexibly across the hospital as part of the trauma and orthopaedic service.

We support each other daily and pride ourselves on maintaining our skills and competencies. We aim to provide excellent education to students and staff within our team and the wider organization. Our team continually seeks to develop our service and values new ideas.

Main duties of the job
  1. Work Monday to Friday regularly and contribute to the weekend service.
  2. Work across acute wards and various areas as needed, including fracture clinics, support for day surgery, outlying trauma and orthopaedic patients, and paediatrics.
  3. Provide senior leadership alongside the team lead for orthopaedic therapy and ward teams.
  4. Support home visits or similar activities to facilitate patient flow.
  5. Act as an expert in assessing and managing patients with diverse pathologies, collaborating with physiotherapists, students, healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients, and carers.
  6. Identify appropriate physiotherapy treatments and managements with the MDT.
  7. Work with discharge coordinators and other services to facilitate patient discharge plans.
  8. Educate and train physiotherapists, students, and healthcare staff in managing acute and chronic conditions.

Qualifications and training
  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy

  • Advanced Manual Handling skills
  • Bond Salon clinical record keeping or equivalent
