Overview

Torbay Assessment & Intervention Service are currently looking to appoint both a Full Time permanent Social Worker and a Full Time Social Worker on a 9 month Fixed Term Contract.

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker specialising in Assessment and Child Protection to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families within our community.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and develop comprehensive intervention plans to support at-risk families.
  • Identify and address concerns to promote child safety and well-being, while empowering families toward long-term stability.
  • Manage a caseload and participate in a duty rota to support the running of the service.
  • Produce accurate recordings, reports, and maintain effective IT systems.
Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills in mediation, negotiation and problem solving.
  • Able to assess situations with clarity and sensitivity and act professionally in crisis situations.
  • Ability to implement anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of work.
  • Ability to mentor others that upholds and promotes the ethical principles and values that guide professional practice and ensures compliance with policies.

English Proficiency: This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of the full range of activities delivered by the Authority and partners in relation to children, young people and families.
  • Developed knowledge of Social Care policies and procedures, and awareness of new Child Care legislation and National Guidance.
  • Awareness of effective management practices.
  • Understanding of current legislation and guidance and developments in services to children, young people and families.
  • Knowledge of child development, attachment theory, anti-discriminatory practice, the framework for assessment of children in need and their families, social work theory and methods.
Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Social Work degree qualification (e.g., Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent).
  • Membership of Social Work England.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
  • Significant post-qualification experience of working with children and families in relation to current legislation and government initiatives.
  • Experience of complex Child Protection cases and Court proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989.

This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions not filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is relevant to the role.
