Job description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re more than an energy company; we’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We energise a team of 21,000 colleagues committed to creating a greener, fairer future by developing an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels. We live our commitment to positive change in communities. Here, you find purpose, passion, and potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently — we make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.

We’ve powered UK homes and businesses for over 200 years. But energy supply is just part of our work. We aim to make the UK greener and more energy-efficient, moving closer to Net Zero. Using tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels, and EV chargers, we help customers reduce their carbon footprint more affordably.

Experienced Social Worker

Location: Homebased

Permanent - Full Time / Part Time – generally Monday – Friday, 9-5

Our Flexible First work arrangements empower colleagues to work where suits them best—home or office. We’re open to flexible hours to accommodate individual needs, working together to find solutions that benefit both you and the team.

About your role:

Exciting opportunity to join British Gas Energy as a Social Worker.

This is a new role within our business, joining the Vulnerable Customer Centre of Excellence. You will support at-risk individuals across the UK, making a meaningful difference daily.

As part of the Centre, you’ll develop and implement frameworks to better identify and assist vulnerable customers. You’ll guide frontline teams to provide tailored support, compassion, and resources.

Your key duties:

  1. Identify vulnerable customers facing hardship, health issues, or other vulnerabilities and develop appropriate interventions.
  2. Provide support and resources, such as financial assistance, energy advice, and other aid.
  3. Assist in crisis situations, coordinating emergency interventions for health, wellbeing, or disconnection issues.
  4. Educate staff and customers on rights, support programs, and energy-saving practices.
  5. Collaborate industry-wide to develop accessible, effective programs for vulnerable customers.
  6. Address mental health issues related to financial stress, connecting customers with mental health services.

What we’re looking for:

We seek an experienced Social Worker who is compassionate, solutions-oriented, and eager to make a difference. You should have a proven track record in delivering high-quality social work, with strong empathy, clarity, and calmness in communication. Confidence in handling sensitive conversations and navigating digital systems is essential.

Applicants should be qualified Social Workers who align with our values, prioritize excellent customer service, and are confident promoting our products and services to help customers stay independent and safe at home. Experience in energy or banking sectors is a plus but not required.

If you’re purpose-driven and want to join a caring team, we’d love to hear from you. Share any relevant experience during the recruitment process to help us understand your journey.
