Overview

Are you passionate about animal care and ready to take your laboratory career to the next level? We're on the lookout for a motivated and skilled Lab Technician to join our forward-thinking practice just outside the beautiful market town of Newbury.

In this dynamic role, you'll be at the heart of veterinary diagnostics — working with a wide range of animal medical samples using cutting-edge technology to deliver accurate, high-quality results. We're looking for someone with solid lab experience, ideally in a veterinary setting. We’re also keen to hear from experienced Veterinary Nurses eager to bring their clinical knowledge into a lab environment and step into an exciting new opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Support daily lab operations, including routine calibrations, quality control checks, and equipment start-up/shut-down procedures
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic tests with precision in key areas such as parasitology, haematology, biochemistry, endocrinology, microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with confidence and consistency
  • Help maintain a safe, well-stocked, and impeccably clean lab environment
  • Collaborate closely with the lab team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and appropriate staffing
  • Champion best practices and uphold high standards in lab safety and accuracy

About You

We\'re seeking a proactive, detail-oriented technician who can hit the ground running and complement our team of talented laboratory professionals. The ideal candidate will bring at least one year of experience in a diagnostic laboratory with a veterinary background.

Your Skills & Qualifications
  • A degree in Bioveterinary Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in a veterinary lab or similar scientific environment
  • Confident in handling and analysing veterinary samples
  • Skilled in lab techniques such as haematology, biochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and cytology
  • Extra kudos for experience in PCR, microbiology, or advanced haematology
  • A sharp eye for detail and a methodical approach to work
  • Strong communicator and team player with a collaborative mindset
  • A real passion for animal health and welfare
Your Working Hours

This is a full-time position across 35 hours per week with Saturdays and bank holidays on a rota.
